What is On The Water?

On The Water - Thames Festival 2011On The Water is a 5-year project from the British Marine Federation (BMF). The objectives are to increase the number of people taking part in watersports and boating as part of an active lifestyle and promote British Marine Federation members.

Background

Launched in 2010, On The Water is a five-year project, from the British Marine Federation, that aims to encourage more people to enjoy the benefits of boating and watersports.

The British Marine Federation represents over 1,400 companies from boatbuilders, to holiday companies, to equipment manufacturers and training centres – our members are experts in the coastal and inland sectors of the marine industry. Regular participation across a range of boating activities from Kayaking to Sailing to Inland boating, aim to breakdown the barriers to entry.

Research shows that the biggest barriers for new boaters are a lack of information about entry routes into boating and a perception that it is an elitist sport. On The Water seeks to address this trend by giving people practical advice on how to take the first steps into boating, providing them with ideas on how to get started, and advice on boat purchases and holidays. The response to the project so far has been very positive.
