About Lough Erne

About Lough Erne

Located in County Fermanagh, Lough Erne is split into two sections – upper and lower – which are joined by the River Erne. This beautiful unspoilt Lough boasts 365 islands, historical sites, spectacular wildlife, great facilities and condition to learn or develop your boating skills.

The lower Lough is larger and popular with dinghy sailors and day trippers. The Lough's shores are lined with slipways, jetties, bars and restaurants. Lough Erne Yacht Club is Ireland’s oldest racing yacht club, and offers a warm informal welcome with an active racing and training section. The upper Lough is calmer with plenty of sheltered channels and fringed by mountains, making it a spectacular location for kayakers who want to gain confidence, relax and discover the abundance of wildlife – watch out for the whooper swan, otters and peregrine falcon. You could explore the Lough on one of the many canoe trails.
